Cactus Pachycereus Marginatus

When they reach maturity, it is difficult to have it in test because it occupies a large size.

Category:

The Pachycereus marginatus also known as the common name organ cactus or the scientific synonym of Stenocereus marginatus, comes from Mexico and the southwestern United States. They’re cacti that get really big. They grow as a column and can be dark green or greyish. They can exceed seven meters in height and, despite being solitary cactus, branch off either from the base or from half of the specimen.

They are curious because the tip has a very round shape unlike some other species that end in a rather pointed shape. Because they are very fast growing, people use them to make garden barriers, although they can also be planted in a test, knowing that they will not grow up to seven meters. They will reach as large as the test will allow.

The flowers appear on the top, are bell-shaped, are red in color and usually come out in spring. It will grow perfectly if you have it in a place where the direct sun touches and also if it has temperatures that are considerably high, as it does not suit the humid climates or temperatures below eight degrees.

One thing you can consider is that if your Pachycereus is young, in the summer you better give it some shadow, if you can’t risk it burning. And for the cold, if you have it in a test, you can put it in the interior of your house next to a window where it is always well lit and receives sunlight.

The irrigation will be moderate during the growing season, once every fifteen days in summer, waiting for the substrate to be completely dry and in winter or when temperatures are below seven ten degrees, to cease supplying water until the following spring.

It is a cactus that is also curious in the shape of a star, because around the ribs, it runs through white lines from which the spikes come, which are small, but there are many. If you only touch the green side, you won’t risk punching.
