One of the ways apart from the cuttings we have to reproduce the cacti is through seeds, even if, it must be said, it is a little more complicated to work and produce good results. Once you plant the seeds, they can take about three weeks to a few months to germinate, it’s not specified, it depends on the variety of cacti we’re trying to create. Next, I explain you how I planted them. The first thing we need to do is to locate a cactus that after the flowers have been drowned, let us have the pink “packets” where the seeds are inside.
As you can see, they’re not very large between two and three centimeters long. It has a black tip, which is where the flower was to understand us and a whitish tip, which is the part that is attached to the cactus. With the help of some tweezers, take care not to punch yourselves or pull off a spike. Typically, between ten and twenty of them emerge.
Prepare a container to be possible white, so it will be much easier for you to see the seeds and go one by one to each packet. You can see that they have a texture between gelatinous and a bit snotty. Now, with the help of a very sharp razor, open up and remove everything inside, with the very tip of the knife scratching a little bit, you’ll have no trouble. Put the pulp mixed with the seeds inside the container with water. Next, take a chair and a lot, a lot of patience, because now comes the heaviest part.
Every point you see in this picture is a seed. As you can see, they’re tiny, so I say this point is the heaviest, because catching them while they’re floating in the water is more difficult than you think. I advise you to take a small brush from those to paint and put it on absorbent paper.
Once you have separated the seeds from the pulp and are all out of the water, prepare a transparent container with special substrate for cactus. if it has its own cover even better, if it’s not possible, a transparent plastic bag will also perform the same function, which will be to create and hold the necessary humidity inside it.
Finally, the seeds need to be spread over the substrate. It is very important that seeds remain as close as possible to the surface, so we will not cover them on substrate. If the vessel does not have drainage holes, it is not a problem, as we will not irrigate too much.
Now, we’re just going to have to try to keep the substrate moist, but without it being wrapped, which means we’re going to have to irrigate with a bottle that has a spray or a pulverize. It’s important that it doesn’t touch the direct sun (it would dry the substrate too much and the seeds would not germinate), so put the container in a place where it has lighting but no direct radiation. You may ask why there is a date written in the bag. This is nothing more than to control the day I planted them and also to control the time that can pass and see whether they have slept or are left in a failed attempt.
