This space is dedicated to the different cuttings I have at home. I started doing them for fun, because it seemed curious to me how a single leaf or a piece of branch could get out of a new specimen. Currently, I have thirty-four, but some of these are repeated. Apart from cacti cuttings, I made also cuttings from other plants, such as a pothos.
As you can see, there is a date under the photo. This date is the day I planted them. We have to be attentive to the substrate, because if we let it dry too much, there is a risk that the cutting will die, as it has no direct source of water or nutrients that can keep it alive, because only on a few weeks, we will see roots begin to emerge. It’s nothing more than the part of the plant you cut or that by bad luck broke the one that is in contact with the substrate, and sometimes, despite being above it, they don’t survive. The basic
rules to consider (to put it some way) when creating a new plant are:
-First: the razor or scissors we use to cut off the part of the plant that interests us must be disinfected with alcohol to prevent infections in the cutting or remaining plant.
-Second: at this point, there are two possible options, which are: once cut, at both ends cut, you can put some cinnamon powder to help you heal faster, you can also plant directly on the ground previously prepared to irrigate, or some say it is advisable to let the cut dry from 3 to 7 days and thus encourage root growth. It is very important that once we have planted the cutting of not touching it, not moving it or lifting it to see if it has already taken roots, because if it is the case that it has taken root, these are very weak and fragile and can easily be broken. It is therefore a question of standing still for two months. If it goes ahead, it is clear from the growth it has
-Third: to water the cuttings, it is better to do it once a week or once every fortnight always before checking that the substrate is completely dry, so we avoid possible diseases (which rot).
And finally, and it’s not a rule as such but rather a suggestion, it’s to point to the day the new plant has been created and also to write every time they’re irrigated, so it’s easier to remember which day was the last time they were given water.
Tests can be kept inside the house if a large greenhouse is not available under conditions. In order to have them as well as possible, they can be placed inside vessels also previously prepared with their ventilation openings (important also for controlling humidity). Much humidity is synonymous with rotting the plant) or small greenhouses can be bought that are in principle to be able to plant vegetable seeds in the home. Instead of putting soil in, the pots are placed, which if small can be placed in twenty-four and
performs the same function as a large one. You can put it next to a window so that they get as much light as possible and, if everything goes well and they like the place, you can start your plant business. While it’s true, before you find the exact point, and the best way to create and care for them, you’ll have to kill a few, believe me, I know what I’m talking about!
