Cactus Thelocactus Setispinus

It is very different from the other species of Thelocactus.

Category:

Today I present you with a cactus that has nothing to do with those of its own species, one might say it is unique. It is the Thelocactus setispinus, commonly known as the cactus of strawberries in reference to the small fruit that once the flower starts to wither. It makes a yellowish flower with a red center and, as I said before, it then produces soft orange-red berries. It is also curious that in this species the nerves or ribs are very marked and sometimes quite undulating. We can find it easily in gardens or in markets.

In the summer, if the direct sun touches it, you will see that it changes from the dark green that is normally in the red color. Does this to protect from the sun and avoid burning. I have seen this at first hand with what I have at home. If that happens to you, put a sunset or move the test to somewhere that brings it half shade.

Average well-cooled, it can withstand occasional frost, but better prevent it from falling from five positive degrees. The irrigation must be minimal, small amount but often. It’s best that you water it in the summer three times a week, so you make sure that the substrate is dry before you give it back to water, and I water again every fortnight, which would be normal. If you do that, you can risk the cactus being ravaged and dying.

You must also consider humidity. Much moisture can rot the roots and is another way to destroy it. It can reproduce easily through the seeds that release the flower.
