Here’s Mammillaria Longimamma, its most common name is: Biznaga of long fingers. It is found in Mexico and the southern United States. It is named for the protuberances that appear in the shape of a finger. At the tip of these fingers, the spikes come out. It makes small yellow flowers. If we translate its meaning directly into Latin, we could get something like: cactus with big mammary.
The Mammillaria family of cacti is one of the largest cacti families in existence. They are originally from Mexico, but as well as having grown them artificially, it is now possible to find them everywhere.
There is a species also known as the “Peyote” which, because of various situations such as Mexico’s natives and also foreigners, use it for its hallucinogens properties, are leading the species to extinction.
As I have said, Mammillarias are world-famous for their ease of care, because they sustain relatively low temperatures and require little else. They also make it a curious species due to its blooming shape, as they begin to remove flowers just at the tip, in the shape of a crown. To put it one way or the other, they are the crowned cactus or floral crown.
You are usually all rather small and you can find them white, yellow, red, with a central vein of a different color from the petal or the most common, a very intense rose.
