Cacti Polaskia Chichipe

It is very common, since both the flower and the fruit that is edible can be used.

Category:

Polaskia Chichipe is native to Mexico and we can know it under the vulgar name Chichipe. It is a columnar cactus with a tendency to branch, which can reach between four and five meters high. Normally, it has between nine and twelve wave-shaped ribs, of each radial areola that are separated between one and two centimeters, between five and six gray spines with the black tip that will vary according to the size of each specimen.

As for flowering, it is mainly in the hottest months and it offers small flowers between two and three centimeters, with a coloration that can vary between yellow, white and violet, always showing striking colors. When the flower has already faded, it gives way to a red fruit, in a globular and thorny shape, three centimeters in diameter and with a very juicy flesh. Inside we will find tiny black seeds, which do not even reach a centimeter, but are a millimeter.

It does not have much resistance to cold, it stands at most eight positive degrees and requires direct sunlight. Watering should not be very abundant, during the spring and autumn seasons watering once every fortnight is more than enough and, in winter it is not advisable to water until all the cold has passed, if we think it appropriate we can water it once a month as long as the temperatures are not lower than the above.

If I have to say something negative, it is that it does not withstand frosts, so I have said that it is not advisable to expose it to temperatures below eight degrees positive, but it does not withstand temperatures above thirty degrees, since both ends are very harmful to cactus.
