Cacti Aloe Humilis

It is similar to Aloe Longistyla and is very easy to confuse when not in the flowering process.

Here’s Aloe Humilis. It can also be found by the scientific synonyms of Aloe Subtuberculata or Aloe Echinata, among others. It is endemic to South Africa and likes dry, rocky areas.

It is a succulent with quite particular leaves: it grows in the form of a rosette, the leaves are green, fleshy, triangular and elongated, narrow and with white soft teeth. They measure about 10 centimeters in length by 2 centimeters in width.

It likes direct sunlight and tolerates minimum temperatures of up to two negative degrees. As for flowering, it is very similar to all Aloe varieties: a long and straight stem that can reach up to 35 centimeters in height, with branches that have more than twenty flowers and all of them can be red, yellow or orange. They do not exceed 4 centimeters in length and we will be able to appreciate them between the months of June and September.

If you have this specimen inside the house it is recommended to water once every fortnight between the months of March and September, however, if you have it outside, watering once a week is more than enough.

Finally, a note that I find curious if you don’t know much about Latin: the word “humilis” (from its scientific name) means: small plant.
