Cactus Stenocereus Griseus

Despite being from Venezuela and the West Indies, it is widely cultivated in Mexico for the fruits it provides.

Category:

Today I present the Spinocereus Griseus, we know it with the vulgar names of Mezcalito and Cardón Guajiro. They are large cactuses that can reach up to eight meters high, have between eight and ten ribs with rounded areolae, ten or eleven pink radial spines and between one and three central spines.

This cactus is quite well known because of the whitish flowers with pink tones come edible fruits called “pitayas”, which for those who do not know what they are, are usually roses with green leaves and its interior is white with some black dots that are the seeds. It can survive both direct sun exposure and being in a light shaded place.

They are quite sensitive to cold, so it is better not to expose them to temperatures below ten degrees positive. If they are exposed to low temperatures for a long time, we can observe that spots begin to appear on their entire surface.

Finally, it is very resistant to drought, so between irrigation and irrigation we will expect the substrate to be completely dry. If we pass with the water supply, we will expose the cactus to humidity problems and problems with pests and diseases.
