Today I present the Thelocactus Rinconensis, originally from Mexico, is also known for the scientific synonyms of Echinocactus Rinconensis or Thelocactus rinconensis spp. rinconensis. It is a globose or semiglobose-shaped cactus that can be between 10 and 20 centimeters in diameter.

Normally, it has a blue-green color with prominent ribs, slightly wavy up to 2 centimeters high. From the middle of these spines come out of different sizes: radial spines of 5 to 11 units, the vast majority short up to 5 millimeters, occasionally up to 30 millimeters. And then you have the central spines generally 4, from 3 to 6 centimeters and the one below is usually the longest, thickest and straightest of all.

As for the flowers, they can be white with yellow or pink tones. They measure 4 centimeters in length and 4 to 5 in diameter. On some occasion and if we are lucky, it can offer us a small greenish yellow fruit that can be 7 to 13 millimeters long by 7 to 9 in diameter. Its flowering time is between March and April.

Finally, it is a species that does not want much water, so we will water once every fortnight in spring, once a week in summer and once a month in autumn. When temperatures are less than 10 degrees’ positive stop watering until the following spring. It is one of the species that tolerates the cold best, it can withstand up to 6 negative degrees.
