Cactus Cephalocereus Senilis

They are used for grafting on other cacti of the genus Trichocereus.

Cephalocereus Senilis, also known as an old man, is native to Mexico. He is known by this common name for the color and shape of his spikes. They remember the head of an elderly person mostly by color white. These curious spines serve to protect them from cold. They are columnar growth cactus, usually unique specimens, but there are some exceptions that may branch out.

When they are planted at home either in an individual test or planted directly on the ground, they grow up to a meter in height. However, if they are in their natural habitat, they grow to over fifteen meters in height. Its growth is slow. If we have it planted in a test, we will find it very difficult to see him flourish, but if he does, then very large flowers come out in white that only open at night. This phenomenon occurs from mid-spring to early summer.

They need exposure to the sun to develop the curious spikes they have. One negative point I could tell you about this cactus is that small specimens are not very resistant, they don’t hold temperatures below ten degrees, but the old ones, they hold six degrees. They have to irrigate quite once every fortnight in summer and stop giving water when the cold starts, between autumn and winter and waiting as long as the substrate is completely dry. Above all, it is very important that water does not touch the plant directly. A very easy and direct way to kill the cactus is to have an excess of humidity.
