Cereus Forbesii var. Spiralis, is one of the most beautiful and exotic cacti in existence. It comes from South America and is known by the scientific synonym Cereus spiralis or by the common name’s spiral cactus or spiral candle cactus. Its main feature is undoubtedly the way it grows. Since they are very small, they emerge with the tip that is already spiral-shaped, and as it grows, the spirals become tighter and denser. It can exceed five meters in height and be fifty centimeters in diameter. It branches over time, and each arm also spirals.

Unfortunately, he has to have something wrong, and that’s bloom. It produces very large flowers about fifteen centimeters in diameter, which can be white or have pink tones. And now you’ll say, where’s the bad thing? Well, it has a nocturnal bloom, so the flowers open at night. And that’s the case, they open up at night and the next day, when the sun rises, the flowers have already faded. It leaves way for large globular fruits that when mature turn red.

It needs direct sunshine, less in the warmest hours of the day, where we will have to give it shade. The irrigation must be moderate during the growing season, so it is in spring and summer. Knowing this, we will sail every fortnight in spring, weekly in summer and autumn, until October, only once a month. Then completely remove the irrigation until the minimum temperatures are stabilized and above six positive degrees.

It is very resistant to pests and diseases, so we will not have to worry. What we will have to watch out for is not irrigation, good drainage and, above all, avoiding excessively low temperatures.
