Today I present you with a plant that is world-renowned and very famous for a number of reasons. It is the Crassula Ovata, native to southern Africa and is known by everyone with the common names Jade plant, jade tree or money plant. It has a shrubby port, is slow growing, develops a thick central trunk of grayish color, and over the years it can exceed fifty centimeters in height.
From an early age, it begins to branch, and from each arm there are flattened leaves, opposite each other that can be from a bright green to a dark green and also if you look at them, you will see that they have slightly red tips. This change in color is caused by seasonal changes. If you want to have a plant that is suitable inside your home and offers you multiple benefits, this is your proper Crassula. Be careful where you put it, as it is a slightly toxic plant for cats and dogs, and if you eat a leaf, you can have diarrhea, vomiting or a lack of balance.
It needs minimal attention, it hardly has to be irrigated, because excess moisture is the most direct way to kill it, so if you have it inside your house, you have to irrigate it only when the substrate is completely dry, and we’ll know that by sinking your finger to the deepest part of the test. Don’t just settle for irrigation at the top, but you have to make sure that the water comes out through drainage holes. Once the substrate is well wet, we will remove the excess water in the dish.
As for illumination, it needs a lot of light but no direct sun, as it could harm the leaves by creating small burns. If you have the right light, you will see that from spring to autumn, a few small star-shaped flowers will come out and they are usually pinkish white.
Finally, the jade tree functions as an air purifier and in antiquity, some African tribes used this plant as a medicine to cure diarrhea, epilepsy, and to expel venom from the body.
