Today I present one of the cacti that are strange and curious. These are Echinocereus pentalophus subsp. procumbens. It is known as fake nightwing among other names and comes from Mexico. When I say it is both strange and curious, I say it because it is practically unique in its kind.
It has a very curious growth form, growing as a rug by making many stems and piled together like a handful of fingers. Curiously, although it looks like a very small plant that does not have to reach a large span, its height can reach twenty centimeters in height by one meter in width.
It spreads across the ground, taking up quite a lot of space, branching out and semi-posting each other. They have a variety of colors that are quite diverse. It can range from reddish or purple to dark green. As for the flowers, they are also a show. They are very large, can reach twelve centimeters in diameter and be bright pink or magenta with a light white throat that almost occupies the entire flower. It flowers between April and May. It has green fruits with white pulp and fruiting occurs during the three or four months after flowering.
