Cactus Gymnocalycium Pflanzii

It can be grown in a full sun or semi-shadow exhibition and in climates with frostless winters.

Today I present you at the Gymnocalycium pflanzii. It is one of the most common of this species. It is known as Echinocactus pflanzii and comes from South America. It is a cactus that grows in the form of a sphere with the center somewhat sunken which is where the spikes can be seen more clearly.

They do not grow very much, with age creating little plants and growing up to fifteen centimeters in diameter. As they do not grow to fifteen centimeters, these cacti are ideal for putting them in pots or gardeners on balconies. Also, they hold the direct sun and the semi-shadow, but very careful with the cold, it is a species that doesn’t like at all, doesn’t convince it of temperatures below three degrees positive. If it’s the case that where you live or have the temperatures drop from these degrees, you have to move them indoors and put them in a window where the direct light touches or if you have the option, put them in a greenhouse or cover them with a resistant plastic.

It makes small pink or orange-white flowers and rises on top of cactus. The irrigation will be regular in spring and summer, waiting for the substrate to be completely dry once every fortnight. When it starts to get cold, that is in autumn, it will be watered once a month and when we are in winter, it will stop irrigating until the following spring or when minimum temperatures exceed six degrees.

Resist pests fairly well, but are very sensitive to fungal diseases caused by an excess of irrigation or moisture. So, you have to be careful when supplying water to the cactus if you don’t want it to die is clear!
