Cactus Mammillaria Spinosissima f. Rubrispina

The name Rubrispina refers to the red color of the spines.

Category:

Mammillaria Spinosissima f. Rubrispina, originally from Mexico, is commonly called ” Irish redhead”. It is a generally solitary columnar port cactus, but sometimes older specimens can offer us little plants.

The spines of the genus “Rubrispina” can range from red, to rust (the color of a rust iron to understand us) or even white. It can form large columnar groups where we will see only sharp points, spikes and brighter red or copper points.

Usually, it does not exceed thirty centimeters in height and is about ten centimeters in diameter. The irrigation can be every fortnight in the spring and summer, once a month in the autumn and stop irrigation completely in the winter. We must not expose it to temperatures below five positive degrees.

Finally, we must keep a close eye on summer, to prevent the hours where the sun is hotter (central hours of the day, between twelve and three p.m.) from giving a shadow to this cactus, as it is very easy to produce burns.

We must bear in mind that although it is a highly resistant plant, its greatest problems are caused by excess water and humidity, it can make both fungus and root rot.
