Oreocereus celsianus is originally from South America, from the Andes to be more exact. It also receives the scientific synonym Oreocereus fossulatus. They grow as a column and branch about halfway along, typically between one and two meters. They are dark green or grayish, but are covered with white hairs that hide the huge spikes surrounding it.
The flowers appear on top and are highlighted on the white covering the cactus. These come out in late spring. They are slow-growing, making them an ideal cactus to plant in test while small, but the option to plant them directly on the ground, in a garden with rocks for example with a variety of cactus mixed or even to have them alone must be contemplated.
They perfectly support a dry, hot climate and are resistant to frost as long as the substrate is completely dry. At irrigate time, in the middle of summer, they can afford to receive water once a week while waiting for this, as their main enemy and cause of death is excess water. Stop watering when the cold begins, in autumn.
