Parodia Ottonis is also known by scientific synonyms Echinocactus Ottonis and Parodia Paraguayensis among others. It comes from South America and grows between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. They are globular-shaped cacti that do not exceed twelve centimeters in height with ribs that are quite curious: they have between nine and twelve and are rather round.
The white wooliness that appears in his youth stands out from the dark green color of the cactus body. Each areola has five to nine curved radial spines and one zero to five more straight and long radials.
The flowers are usually yellow, sometimes seen in a pinkish color, and appear on top of the cactus between six and ten centimeters in diameter, all of which are very spectacular. Exceptionally, there have been cases of individuals who are very young have also flourished.
Like many other varieties of cacti, it grows without difficulties in full sun, but it will not have difficulty living if it is located in semi shade. In winter, although it could withstand some very light and particularly punctual frost, it is not advisable to expose it to minimum temperatures below four degrees positive.
The irrigation must be moderate in spring and summer, if the heat is very heavy, we can afford to irrigate once a week in both spring and summer, otherwise the most suitable will be: once every fortnight in spring, once a week in summer, once a month in autumn as long as it does not get too cold and in winter we will stop irrigating completely. Before water again, we must be sure that the substrate is completely dry.
It is very resistant to disease and pests; we only have to bear in mind that fungi will appear if we exceed irrigation.
