Cactus Sedum Burrito

It is not advisable to manipulate it very much, as it can lose leaves very easily.

Today I present you with a succulent plant that I find fascinating with the way it grows. It is the Sedum Morganianum, which for those who don’t know what it is, you might better recognize it as Sedum burrito or straight-tailed burro. It comes from southern Mexico and Honduras.

It grows into a cluster of grey green leaves that hang from long stems. When it grows, it forms a fairly spectacular blanket of leaves, which, if it likes the place and we have it in the best conditions, can reach a meter in length.

It is a very rustic variety, surviving perfectly without sun. If you buy it as small, it’s fine if you have it in a decorative test, but when you start to see that the stems have reached their peak growth point (in the small test where you have it) it’s important that you transplant to a place that’s far from the ground, either in a basket hanging from the ceiling or with a test pinned to the wall.

The flowering is female from spring to late summer, with small flowers between two and four centimeters in pink with yellow pistils. It doesn’t need much attention, irrigating it from time to time (it is not necessary to irrigate it weekly if there is no heavy heat) and transplanting it, when necessary, will be more than enough to enjoy the burro tail.

In conclusion, apart from being careful not to manipulate it too much to avoid damaging it, we must be careful not to exceed irrigation, because this could lead to roots rotting and an end to it. In addition, we must also protect it in winter because it does not have temperatures below seven positive degrees. If we expose it to very extreme minimum temperatures, the only thing we can do is to kill the plant by freezing it.
