The succulent Kalanchoe Beharensis, known as elephant’s ears, comes from Madagascar. Its greatest characteristic, and also the one attributed to it by this common name, are its leaves that look like velvet, which by its texture, color and shape becomes a good option to wear on the terrace. It is a bush port plant that, if given its space, can reach above three meters.
It loses its lower leaves while growing new ones, and this will form the stem. Although, as I said, it has a bush port, if you like, it can be repaired to the taste to give it a shape and the branches you cut, you can use them to cut cuttings and create new specimens.
It appreciates having sun, but his perfect place will be where he has sun a few hours a day and then has shade (especially interested in having shadow when there touches the strongest hours of sunshine). The irrigation can vary depending on the heat it makes, so in the spring it can be irrigated every fortnight, in the summer, because it is hotter once a week it is good and, in the autumn as it is not normally very hot, irrigation once a month is sufficient. In the winter, stop providing water, unless you live in an area where it is not very cold, in which case you can afford to irrigate once a month as well.
Finally, doesn’t have many enemies, you just have to make sure that the water doesn’t ponding when you water, because it could rot the roots and then the stem, and that’s going to kill the plant. If you want to prevent this from happening, before returning water, you must ensure that the substrate is completely dry.
