Cactus Mammillaria Bombycina

They are easy to cultivate plants that are usually used in tests because they are quite small in size.

Here’s one of the cacti that I like the most, but at the same time I like to play less because of the shape of their spikes, which grow into the shape of ham (like fishing hams) and this makes it very difficult for you to get caught out of the bush and the very fact that you punch with the spines next to it. This is Mammillaria Bombycina. It is known by the common name Silk Bisnaga and is found mostly in Mexico.

When in their natural habitat, they form colonies that can grow to 20 centimeters high, but if we have them planted in a home test, from the very beginning unless they do not buy any specimens that already have quite a few small cactuses, we find only one plant in each test, and if things go well, it can reproduce easily. Between the spike and the green side, we can see an apparently fine white oldness. This part (between the spike and the green part) is called armpit. The spikes are red.

As for the flowers, being of the Mammillaria class, they bloom almost throughout the spring and summer season. It makes small, purple or pink flowers that rise on top, like a crown, so this species is said to be crowned cactuses. It produces whitish fruits, where the black seeds are indoors to create new plants.

Normally, the silk snare prefers a semi-shadow environment, but if it is to be full sun, it will not dislike it either, as long as we consider that in summer if by chance the sun is very hot, it will give it some shade. During the winter, it is better not to let it pass the three positive degrees.

With regard to irrigation, it should be noted that it is very resistant to drought, but during spring and summer it is advisable to irrigate once every fortnight while waiting for the substrate to be completely dry. If this is not respected, an excess of irrigation will lead the cactus to fungal diseases and, as a result, the plant’s stinking. Therefore, it is very important that when temperatures begin to fall from the six positive degrees, they cease to provide water (from autumn to next spring, when temperatures again exceed six positive degrees).

Finally, apart from the possible propagation by seeds, we can easily do this through a given little plants or some broken part.
