Cactus Ferocactus Horridus f. Brevispinus

It is very common to see it in the gardens of cactus and crass plants as well as to be used as an interior plant.

Category:

Ferocactus Horridus f. Brevispinus comes from Mexico, but some say that for the shape of the spines that are actually from a nursery. We know it under the common name Barrel biznaga from the peninsula and, it is very easy to care for, because in its natural habitat we find it on the slopes of the hills, and being in a place like this, it also receives a lot of water in two months and the rest of the time has only sun.

It is a solitary cactus, globular as it is small and takes a barrel shape as it grows. It tends to be dark green all its life, having between twenty-five and forty centimeters in diameter and between forty centimeters and a meter in height. Unusually, it can reach two and a half meters. It is fast growing and different from the normal species (the Ferocactus Horridus) by having a much shorter but more robust central spine.

As for spines and flowering, it has a very short but strong central spine, curveted and brownish grey, and between seven and ten short radial spines (not as much as the central spines), straight and very robust. In early autumn, it offers orange or yellow flowers with red hues, about three centimeters long. The fruit that leaves us later is also three centimeters, lemon yellow and curiously egg-shaped. Next, we can see that the seeds are bright black, that these are the ones we will have to use if we intend to reproduce the plant.

The irrigation issue is a bit special, as I told you before, it only receives water for two months, the rest of the year has only sun, so when you have it at home it is important that you follow this line once every fifteen days in both spring and summer, in autumn Irrigation once a month and not give more water until next season, because they come to rest when the cold comes. We can expose it to temperatures below zero, it holds up to five degrees negative without having any serious consequences.

Finally, there is no plague behind him, we just have to be careful in irrigation, too much water is synonymous with rot, and if it has too much humidity it is when it can catch diseases or directly fungi that eliminate the life of this precious cactus.
