Cactus Mammillaria crinita subsp. painteri

They are often used for cultivation in pots and gardeners.

Today I present you with a Mammillaria that few things are known about. This is the Mammillaria crinita subsp. painteri from Mexico, more specifically from Querétaro State. It receives the vulgar names Bisnaguita and lamb tail. They are relatively fast-growing globular cactus that with age become blind and reach six centimeters high.

Unlike other species, this has the tubercles (for whomever it is: the bulges of the cactus are to some extent from where the areoles and spikes come from at the end of these) elongated, about seven millimeters long and with about twenty white radial spikes at the end and four- or five-centimeters centers and are red.

The flowers are small, white or pink, and a curious point is that because of the size of the tubercles, it does not allow them to fully open. It prefers to have direct sunshine especially during the growth, but if not possible, being exposed to semi-shadow will not hurt it.

It should not be exposed to minimum temperatures below two positive degrees. The irrigation will be regular in the spring and summer, once every fortnight waiting as long as the substrate is dry, in the autumn irrigate at most once a month and in the winter, stop providing water completely to avoid possible problems.

If we take ventilation into account and respect irrigation, we are not very much in danger of a plague or disease infecting us and killing our mammillary specimen.
