Cactus Sempervivum Arachnoideum

It has a large number of varieties due to the multiple hybridizations to which it has been subjected.

The Semperivum Arachnoideum is a very striking crass plant because although it may appear to have a spider nest inside it, all those who are afraid of these insects do not suffer, because these filaments are nothing but decoration and a form of protection that makes the same plant. As we can imagine, his vulgar name will be something related to spiders, and that is, he is always called spider-dwelling and comes from North Africa and southern Europe.

This plant forms small rosettes, about five centimeters in diameter although it has a very large capacity to develop in those places where there is nothing else, offering us a very thick and showy mantle. But if you intend to cover a considerably large area, don’t be in a hurry, because it’s slow growing. The filaments I mentioned above are generated in the center of the rosette to protect the younger shoots, and as the plant opens, the filaments do so as well.

Flowering usually occurs in the summer, but it may take many years for it to bloom for the first time, and it will only bloom if it is in the best condition. And good conditions would be direct lighting, it’s indifferent if the sun is very hot. It is also very common to plant them in those gardens where rocks are present or very stony. You should not suffer from extreme cold either, because it adapts without much trouble, and we can see that in extreme cold the leaves turn red, but it is completely normal.

Irrigation must not be very abundant, as this plant is perfectly adapted to drought, which does not mean that we should never irrigate it either. If it is cold, only irrigate it once during the winter is sufficient and when it is hot, in the spring and summer, irrigating a couple of times a month will be more than enough. That is, before irrigating again, we have to make sure that the substrate is completely dry. It is very important not to exceed irrigation.

If you exceed, you can affect roots with stinking and fungal attack that apart from being difficult to treat, can lead the plant to death.
