I present you today one of the first cactus I had when I started this collection of cacti. I am talking about Mammillaria Magnimamma or snare of solitary spine if we want to refer to it by its common name. This species is found in Mexico, especially in Hidalgo State.
They are round cactus with a very intense green color that creates very large colonies that do not usually pass thirty centimeters in height. It is a cactus that is curious for its spikes: it may not have spikes, but rather half a dozen spikes come from one place. These are white with a black tip and are usually not very long.
The flowers crown the Mammillaria with four possible colors: pink, purple, cream and yellow. They mainly bloom in the spring, but can last until late summer. They produce fruits about three centimeters long of a very bright red color.
It can live well with a direct or semi-shadow exposure in dry and warm climates. They can hold temperatures up to zero degrees as long as the earth is dry. To irrigate, it is interesting to do so moderately in the spring and summer, always ensuring that water does not touch the body of the cactus by failing to provide water completely between autumn and winter.
Its weak point is excess water and attacks of red cotton and spider. It can be reproduced through seeds (planted at the end of winter) or with little plants making the parent plant.
