Cacti Albuca Humilis

Here I present you a succulent that I find quite curious. It is the Albuca Humilis, native to South Africa, prefers areas that are arid or semi-arid and we can find it very easily wherever there are rocks and even at altitudes of up to 2800 m.

If we look more deeply, we will see that it is a very simple structure: a bulbous base and green stems that can be 8 to 25 centimeters high. The flowers are quite simple too: at the tip of the green stems, small yellow flowers with green stripes appear on each petal. If we are lucky and we have it in the right conditions, we can see it from the end of summer until well into autumn.

As for irrigation, it is a strain that does not like water very much, this means that before watering we must ensure that the substrate is completely dry, thus avoiding possible rots of the bulb and that this specimen dies. Therefore, throughout the year except in winter, we will water it once every three weeks and always, I repeat, looking for the substrate to be dry. It can also help to have good drainage and above all also a requirement of the plant is that it has direct sun.

Its ideal temperature is between 20 and 38 degrees positive. It also has a lot of resistance to temperature variations, withstanding the minimum temperature of zero degrees and the maximum of 43. If wherever you have it you see that it has damage to the leaves or that it does not grow during the winter, it can be a clear sign that it is not holding very well the low temperatures. While if in summer you see that the leaves burn or the plant dehydrate, it is also a sign that it is suffering. To prevent this from happening, in winter we can take the plant inside the house and put it next to a window and in summer, provide shade and adequate irrigation.

Finally, if we respect everything I said before, we will enjoy our Albuca Humilis for a long time. If we also add fertilize the plant during the growth period, that is between spring and summer. In autumn and winter it can also be provided, but with more moderation.
